Quilt show to stop at church before heading to auction
A quilt show will be from 11 a.m.-3 p.m. Sept. 16 at College United Methodist Church, 701 E. Main St. in Warrenton. The event will feature attendance prizes, including the opportunity to win a quilt. "It should be a really nice day of fellowship," organizer Elaine Auch said.Members of the church are partnering with Friedens United Church of Christ to provide lunch at the event. The $5 admission cost - $4 for those 60 and older - includes soup, salad and dessert. The cooperative effort between the churches was a unique opportunity, Auch said. "I think it's kind of a neat thing that the two churches are working together," she said. The Festival of Sharing is an interfaith celebration and ingathering of mission resources. It takes place each year on the third Saturday of October at the Missouri State Fairgrounds. During the festival, proceeds from the quilt auction benefit Church World Service, an organization that provides tools and blankets to 80 nations, including the United States. The blankets that Church World Service provides cost $5 each, so proceeds from the quilt auction are especially helpful, Auch said. "If the quilt brought $500, you'd have 100 blankets," she said. The local show likely will attract quilt lovers from throughout the area, Auch said. Several area churches plan to bring groups to the event. "We were just really glad that it's coming to this side of the state," Auch said. "We were proud to be asked." Want to go?
