HEARTSAVER FIRST AID: The St. John's Mercy Hospital Heartsaver First Aid class teaches the skills to effectively assess and maintain life until emergency medical workers arrive. AUTISM: Autism Education and Support Services hosts classes at the Center for Autism Education, 105 Crossings Industrial Court in O'Fallon. Classes include Understanding Autism, 6-8 p.m. the second Tuesday of each month, and Strategies for Challenging Behaviors, 6-8 p.m. the fourth Tuesday of each month. These classes are designed for parents, grandparents, baby sitters, friends or other family members who want to learn more about autism. Cost is $30 per class. To register, call 636-978-4951.

Screening

EYE SCREENINGS: 8:30 a.m.-3 p.m. Sept. 12 at the University of Missouri Extension Center, 107 W. Walton in Warrenton. Free screenings for cataracts, glaucoma, diabetic retinopathy and macular degeneration, malformations or malfunctions of the eye and other vision problems. NARCOTICS ANONYMOUS: Meets every Friday at 7:30 p.m. at Friedens United Church of Christ, 313 E. Main St., Warrenton. Open meeting.

WOMEN IN RECOVERY: Women's open meeting is from 10:30-11:30 a.m. every Saturday at the University of Missouri Extension Center, 107 W. Walton St., Warrenton. The facility is non-smoking and handicap accessible.

AL-ANON: Al-Anon offers hope and help to families and friends of alcoholics. Meetings are from 7-9 p.m. every Sunday in Classroom A, on the first floor of the St. John's Mercy Medical Building, 851 E. Fifth St., Washington, Mo.

ALZHEIMER'S SUPPORT GROUP: Meets at 1 p.m. the first Thursday of every month at St. John's Lutheran Church, 950 S. Highway 47 in Warrenton. On Sept. 4, neurologist Philip Dean will be guest speaker. STROKE RECOVERY GROUP: Joins stroke survivors, family and friends for support and education through discussion, programs and speakers. Meets at 3:30 p.m. the second Monday of every month in Classroom A, on the first floor of the St. John's Mercy Medical Building, 851 E. Fifth St., Washington, Mo.

CROHN'S AND COLITIS SUPPORT GROUP: The St. John's Mercy Hospital Crohn's and Colitis Support Group offers support and education on issues specific to Crohn's disease, colitis and ostomies. Families and friends are welcome to attend. Meetings are from 7-8 p.m. the second Monday of every other month in Classroom A, on the first floor of the Mercy Medical Building, 851 E. NEW MOMS' NETWORK: Provides new mothers methods for coping with baby, work and home life. No cost; no reservations required. ALZHEIMER'S SUPPORT GROUP: The St. John's Mercy Hospital Alzheimer's Association Support Group joins caregivers and family members taking care of a loved one who has Alzheimer's. The group's primary goal is to provide a time to share feelings and offer encouragement in a safe environment. The group also will offer information through discussion, programs and professional speakers.
